“KUTNU” Fabric Weaving Today

In the past, kutnu was called the “Palace Cloth” as it was used to make the sultans’ kaftans, and in time came to be used for clothing by men and women of the public, especially the wealthy ones.
Today, kutnu is produced on motorized looms rather than hand looms, and is generally utilized in the costumes of folk dancers and for certain accessories like ties and scarves.
